Dragon Rush - Dual Attacks

The magic system is finished now. Fire, Ice and Thunder are all working. It was about 4 times harder than Techs. I’ve also finished the combination system. Now that was about 7 times harder than Techs. I had to write codes involving a huge amount of math and loops, but it’s finished. The only combination move that works right now is Fire Slash, but I’ll get Ice Slash and Thunder Slash to work soon. Since combination moves are so powerful there will be a negative to them.

I’m kind of worried about the speed of Dragon Rush. Although it runs fine on my 3.0 GHz computer it may not work so well on really old computers. I need further testing to see if there truly is a problem though.

Game of the Week - Super Mario Bros: Kingdom Troubles

Super Mario Bros: Kingdom Troubles

Another game created by Hello. This guy has tons of Mario fan games! Next week’s Game of The Week will be cancelled, so the next one will be in two weeks.

Gameplay seems a bit different than classic Mario platformers, but it is a good different. There is built in instructions if you press F1, so you shouldn’t be too confused about the controls. The levels are well designed. There are many things copied from Mario games, but there are some original creations as well. There are 35 levels in total to play!!!

The graphics make it look just like a Mario platformer. A great amount of effort must have been put into this game to make it look this good.

Most of the music are remixed from various Mario games. Tons of sound effects have been used, much more than necessary. There are even voices for Mario!

There is a small story, but it’s nothing much.

If you’re a Mario fan then you should play this. It’s a fairly difficult game, but lots of fun!

Dragon Rush - First Tech!

I finished making the first tech (Slash) yesterday. Slash is basically the equivalent of getting a critical hit (50% damage bonus). It cost 2 Tech Points to use. Trying to get a critical hit regularly is difficult, so Slash can be helpful. Next up on my list of things to do is to make Magic attacks. Each attack can only be used once per battle, so you have to use them carefully. It’s better to combine Magic with techniques to do damage faster. For example, combining Fire with Slash will let you do a Fire Slash. I have no idea how I’m going to make an attacking system like that, but somehow I’ll handle it. The main character will start off with one Fire, Ice and Thunder, so you’ll be able to use four different Slash Techs. How does this idea sound? If anyone has any suggestions feel free to comment on them.

Game of the Week - Yoshi ClickNGo

Yoshi ClickNGo

A game starring Mario’s sidekick Yoshi! Created by Hello at YoYo Games.

Gameplay is very good. Yoshi always moves right. Your job is to throw eggs at enemies by clicking on a spot. You can also jump by clicking on Yoshi. It’s quite difficult to time everything perfectly.

The graphics are great. They make it seem like a real Mario game. It seems like everything is ripped from various games.

There is good music and a great amount of sound effects. The only sound effect missing is when you throw an egg.

Yoshi ClickNGo is a very fun arcade-like game that you should definitely try. I’m not quite sure how long it is since I couldn’t make it that far. If you can beat this game then you’ve got skills!

Dragon Rush - Battle System in Action!

dragon_snapshot3.png

Now this is the basic battle system when you’ve got one character. Currently only Fight works, but the next thing on my list is Tech. I’m probably going to replace the Level stat with something more important in the stat section. Anyways, expect a demo within 2 weeks. The demo will probably consist of only one fight (Elite Knight), but it will let you use Fight, Tech, Items and maybe some other stuff.
