Game of the Week - Kirby’s Dreamland Collision

Kirby’s Dreamland Collision

I’m starting to get a lot more serious about developing Dragon Rush, so I’ll probably only do a Game of the Week every 2 weeks. Anyways this is a small Kirby game created by StarEdit.

The gameplay is a bit different from the average Kirby game, but it’s really smooth. Kirby attacks by spitting out stars at enemies. He can double jump, but unfortunately he can’t swallow enemies.

The graphics are really good in windowed mode. It looks a lot like some of the commercial Kirby games.

Like almost all fan games the music is originally from commercial Kirby games. They fit well in the game though. The sound effects are good too.

Kirby’s Dreamland Collision is a nice little game. It’s not perfect, but it’s worth a play.

Game of the Week - Super Mario Bros: Kingdom Troubles

Another game created by Hello. This guy has tons of Mario fan games! Next week’s Game of The Week will be cancelled, so the next one will be in two weeks.

Gameplay seems a bit different than classic Mario platformers, but it is a good different. There is built in instructions if you press F1, so you shouldn’t be too confused about the controls. The levels are well designed. There are many things copied from Mario games, but there are some original creations as well. There are 35 levels in total to play!!!

The graphics make it look just like a Mario platformer. A great amount of effort must have been put into this game to make it look this good.

Most of the music are remixed from various Mario games. Tons of sound effects have been used, much more than necessary. There are even voices for Mario!

There is a small story, but it’s nothing much.

If you’re a Mario fan then you should play this. It’s a fairly difficult game, but lots of fun!

Game of the Week - Yoshi ClickNGo

Gameplay is very good. Yoshi always moves right. Your job is to throw eggs at enemies by clicking on a spot. You can also jump by clicking on Yoshi. It’s quite difficult to time everything perfectly.

The graphics are great. They make it seem like a real Mario game. It seems like everything is ripped from various games.

There is good music and a great amount of sound effects. The only sound effect missing is when you throw an egg.

Yoshi ClickNGo is a very fun arcade-like game that you should definitely try. I’m not quite sure how long it is since I couldn’t make it that far. If you can beat this game then you’ve got skills!

Game of the Week - Helicopter Xtreme

Helicopter Xtreme!

A 3D game based on the classic Helicopter game. Created by Doctor Smiles.

Gameplay is pretty good for a 3D game, but there are times when you’ll crash into a wall without realizing it. It would have been better in third person. As you progress the game will get harder and harder. See how long you can last.

Other than the walls there aren’t any other graphics ingame. It would have been wonderful to actually see the helicopter.

The game has only one tune and a couple of sound effects. A little more would have been nice.

It’ll give you something to do for a while, but it just lacks quality to interest you longer than an hour.

Game of the Week - Sonic Zone

Sonic Zone

Sorry for the late Game of the Week. Anyways, Sonic Zone is a very well created fan game made by Effeser.

This game sort of feels like a Sonic game and sort of not at the same time. Sonic can jump, bounce and collect items as usual, but he can’t spin dash. That’s too bad. Sonic Zone is quite difficult. Rings won’t save you here! One hit and you are a goner. There is no save which makes it even more difficult. You start with 5 lives (or 30 if click L at the title). You can get more by collecting 100 rings. You might still have trouble if you use the cheat for 30 lives. The bosses aren’t too difficult, but the levels are seriously frustrating.

Most Sprites are ripped from Sonic games. There are a few that are original sprites created by Effeser that you’ll notice throughout the game.

Enough music and sound effects were used in this game. Sound effects are all ripped and music is based on original music from the Sonic series.

For a game created with such an early version of Game Maker it is quite good! When I first played this I was very impressed. Now that I’ve revisted it I know that it is not AS good as I thought, but still fun and worth a download.
