Tip for Flash

I’ve been able to learn Actionscript 2 and 3 in a month. I’m still learning, but I know some stuff. If you’ve got the latest version of Flash definitely choose Actionscript 3. AS3 is much faster than the previous versions and it has more capabilities. There are some drawbacks however. A few of the functions that were great before have been replaced or deleted.

HitTest is a function that should not have been messed with. It has been replaced with an extremely complicated alternate. I’ve spent hours trying to learn how to use this function and still have not used it. It would be easier to use HitTestObject, but that doesn’t check for pixel collisions.

I tried seeing how many times you could use HitTestObject before it started lagging and I was really surprised. I used 33 FPS for this. 300 000 HitTestObject per second could be used without lagging on my 5-year-old computer! That really amazes me. If you’ve got a lot of collision detection to do don’t worry about it unless you’re using hundred thousands every second.

0.2 of Chrono Trigger Walkthrough

I’ve got up until the prehistoric times completely finished in my Chrono Trigger Low-Level Walkthrough! I’ll be taking a break from the guide for now to focus on other things (like working on the battle system and playing random games!).

So did you guys like E3 this week? I was kind of disappointed with it. There were only a few games that interested me. I’m very surprised that Final Fantasy XIII is going to be on the Xbox 360 as well as the PS3. Some people like that move and others strongly dislike it.

I’ve recently downloaded Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles: My Life as a King for WiiWare. I must admit it is a very addicting game. It is much different than the ordinary Final Fantasy game, but there are still some similarities like fighting and level up. You never get to see any of the actual fighting, however. You control the main character (a king) and have him build up a group of adventurers to explore dungeons and obtain things. You also need to develop your Kingdom with special powers known as Architek.

Writing a Chrono Trigger Walkthrough!

Check out this Chrono Trigger Low-Level Walkthrough that I’ve started on. Currently it’s only a guide up to the Factory of 2300 A.D. It’s a guide for a low-level game (maybe even lowest). I’ve gone into pretty deep detail on how to get items, defeat bosses and avoid enemies.

I’ve been a huge fan of Chrono Trigger for years. I’ve replayed it many times. Each time I seemed to be doing it at an even lower level. I felt like replaying it at the lowest possible level recently. I decided to write a walkthrough on how to beat Chrono Trigger at a low level as I played. It is not an easy challenge, but I intend to provide help to those willing to attempt such a difficult thing.

And the winner is…

Dragon Rush with 15 votes! The Crazy Lollipop came in second with 14 and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Legend of Lucario is third with 13. It was really close. Honestly I did not expect so many votes for The Crazy Lollipop.

Now, time to reveal who made what. I made the Dragon Rush title, Josh made the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Legend of Lucario and Jessica made The Crazy Lollipop title.

The problem with this contest is that an image can’t truly capture mine and Josh’s title. We’ve got objects moving around and appearing at certain times. You’d have to see our games in action to accurately judge. Anyways thanks to all that voted!

Plans For Summer

It’s been a while since we’ve been seriously active hasn’t it? Well now that it is almost summer we are going to be having a lot more free time. We’ve got a lot of plans for the summer. First, you might have noticed that a lot of the Game of the Weeks have been skipped due to our lack of free time. Game of the Week will continue on Sunday of each week.

If you’ve read some of our previous posts you will know that there are two games currently in progress. One is Dragon Rush, an original RPG created by me (Brandon) and the other is a fan-made Pokemon: Mystery Dungeon game starring Lucario created by Josh. I intend to have a playable demo of Dragon Rush sometime this summer. I’m not quite sure what Josh has planned, but I bet it will be good.

A little while ago I said that there were some problems when I updated the blogging system. The problems are now gone! I don’t exactly know how, but they are, so you can freely comment to anything now!
